Namibia Environmental and Cheetah Conservation

Trip code: NAEC
Big cat conservation in Namibia

The image of the cheetah slowly creeping through the grass before sprinting to catch its prey is becoming more rare a sight. Cattle farming in Namibia has contributed to bush encroachment over the past 150 years, causing the land’s natural grasses to wane and thenatural habitat of the cheetah to decrease.

Orientation

Once you have been met and picked up from the airport, you will be taken to your accommodation to settle in. On your first full day, your co-ordinators will guide you through your orientation and help to answer any questions you may have. Please use this time to raise any queries or questions.

Accommodation and Meals

Our camp, which is located in the heart of the Namibian bush, has large 2 man dome tents (with camp beds), each with a seating area under canvas as well as lock-up storage trunks, all under A-frame thatch shelters, intended to add to the wild bush feel of the project! It also has a central eating and socialising area, showers, toilets, and limited electricity. You will have access to a swimming pool, which is just a five-minute walk from the camp and can be used during free time.

Daily rotas will be put in place and everyone gets involved in the day-to-day running of the camp, including wake-up calls and the preparation of all meals.

This includes three meals a day, which will be comprised as follows; cereals for breakfast prepared at the base campsite before work commences, sandwiches and fruit prepared at the camp for lunch, and a hot nutritious meal is prepared each evening back at the campsite. Tea, coffee, squash and water are provided throughout. If you are vegetarian, or have any other dietary requirements please inform us and we will cater for you as required.

Free Time

As the project is located in a pretty remote but stunning African location, you will need to come prepared for your whole trip as venturing to the nearest town won’t happen very often.

On Saturdays, your day off, you can relax at the camp and hang out at the pool as well as being able to head out on walks in the local area.

At the end of your time on the project you will be taken back to the airport. From here you have the option of heading home or you could continue your adventures with a tour of Namibia or somewhere else on the African continent. If you are interested in doing something after your time on this project, have a word with a member of our Africa team about your options.

Programme Support

Throughout your stay in Namibia you will have the support and assistance of the on-site staff. They will be there for you to contact each day if you have any questions. In addition, you will also have access to a 24 hour emergency number, so you are always able to contact a member of our UK team should you need to.

Minimum 18 years, maximum decided on potential participants’ health.
