Voluntary Work
The sanctuary is always busy. The animals require round the clock attention every day of the year and their needs take priority over everything else. Often there are not enough hours in the day to achieve all the things we would like to, which is why the skills and enthusiasm of volunteers are of such benefit to the project.
As a volunteer at Noah’s Ark, you will be involved in some, if not all, of the following activities:

Volunteers will be trained to feed cheetahs & baboons
- Care and hand rearing of baby animals such as baboons and cheetahs
- Feedings 4 - 5 times per day
- Cleaning of baby animals
- Night duty (includes having baby animals sleeping in your bed with you!)
- Building camps
- Erecting fences around Noah's Ark
- Assisting with repair and building of other structures on the farm
- Trained to assist as Field Guide for daily tours of Noah's Ark
Assistance in the clinic with injured animals (Qualified Veterinarian Experience required)
Depending on the time of year and demand, there is a possibility that you may also be able to assist with Wild Dog research which will involve:
- Identifying each individual Wild Dog
- Identifying family patterns and eating habits
- Drawing of markings on Wild Dogs
What’s Included in the Programme
- Project Fee: This entails financing that goes directly back into the project that you are involved with. This project fee facilitates funding for items such as building materials, fuel, foodstuffs etc.
- Arrival transfer from accommodation to the project on the Friday and return transfer to the Airport
- Arrival Orientation
- All accommodation during your stay
- Work Placement
- Full support and assistance from your co-ordinator throughout your time on your placement
- All meals
What’s Not Included in the Programme
- Personal travel insurance for the duration of your placement, which should include cover for repatriation
- All flights
- Work visa £55
- Overnight stay in Windhoek at approx N$100 (£10/$15) on the Thursday that you arrive
- Arrival airport transfer to Windhoek for approx N$250 (approx £15/$20)
- All items of a personal nature, such as curios, gifts, clothing (work and other)
- E-mail/Internet and telephone calls
- Soft drinks, wines and spirits
- Any excursions over and above your planned itinerary in Namibia
