I booked on the 'gap year for 'grown-ups' section, but being 40 years old did not hold me back! I was the eldest volunteer during my stay, and infact some of the younger volunteers looked on me as 'mum'! I really didnt know what to expect from this project, I just knew I wanted to be with animals. I was amazed by how much interaction we got with them. There is a certain amount of responsibility being with them, and learning their behaviour etc I loved it ! It is very physical and hard work, but you know that everything you do is for the good of the animals so it makes it worth while, and it is more than made up for, by the times you get to sleepout with the baby lion cubs, baboons and cheetahs. If you are prepared to try your hand at everything at least once and enjoy every moment, then it will be fun!! You meet loads of new friends from round the world, and when you get home, no-one can believe all the amazing things you've got to do and see! Personally I could have stayed for four weeks or more to really appreciate my surroundings, and I would advise anyone whos not sure about this project to just go for it, you wont regret it!.

Well I had an absolutely brilliant time. The trip and my experiences exceeded all my expectations and I would love to go back, it was just so hard to leave (especially Kevin and Mimi the baby baboons)!! The best bits were holding a three day old lion cub and bottle feeding baby baboons.

If you have been on this travel project, we'd love to hear from you!
