Whilst here in Namibia, you will help to care for the welfare of animals that have been orphaned or injured. The centre aims to operate as a soft release area for animals that have been rehabilitated successfully from the Noah’s Ark project, 300 kilometres East of Windhoek.

Voluntary Work

You should expect to be working physically hard on this programme. Currently the waterholes, enclosures, and other necessary infrastructure are all under construction, with Marlice and her Bushman team handling the projects.

During your time at the project, you will join in some of the following activities:
  • Building and erecting enclosures
  • Relocating animals
  • Participating in darting and capture of animals to be relocated, that otherwise would be shot and killed
  • Work towards finishing the Charity lodge, aimed for end of July 2007
  • Helping with the hospitality division of lodge
  • Record keeping of the animals arriving and their treatments
  • Helping with data collection and convey the results to relevant organisations
  • Rehabilitation of Wildlife
  • Daily operations of the wildlife sanctuary such as feeding animals, cleaning their enclosures, tending to injured or sick animals along with the maintaining of the farm
  • Camping and Night walks in the bush

Location

Located 38 kilometres east of Windhoek in Namibia and 15 kilometres from the International airport, this programme has been converted and supported through funding by its new patron, Angelina Jolie, to become a 10,000 hectare release site for the animals.

Accommodation and meals

Because this is a new programme, until summer 2007, you will stay at a comfortable tent-lodge. The tents are quite large, and can sleep five to six volunteers in each. They also include bathrooms with shower and toilet. The new volunteer house aimed to be finished by July 2007 has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

All of the costs of meals are included in the project fee. There is also a communal laundry and dining area that looks over the expansive plains of this amazing project site.
