Voluntary Work
Volunteer help is urgently required on this pioneering programme to protect the dolphins. The focus of this Peru voluntary work programme is to re-educate local fisherman to help protect the species rather than hunting and therefore help preserve dolphin populations.
Volunteers form an integral part of the research team working, collecting important information on dolphin distribution areas, behaviour & interaction. This crucial data is then used to develop dolphin watching tourism so that the local fisherman can earn an income rather than resorting to illegal killing. Additionally, this data will help on a scientific level – monitoring the impact of dolphin watching on the Peruvian environment to help conserve Bottlenose dolphin populations.
Every day volunteers depart on a research vessel and make a positive contribution to the study and monitoring of local coastal populations of bottlenose dolphins.
Typical volunteer tasks will include:
- Data recording of dolphin sightings, location and behaviour
