Voluntary Work
Your mornings will be spent either helping at a local township creche or at a school.
As a volunteer, the most vital role that you will play is helping the girls with schoolwork. This way they can make that little bit more of their education, so you will be spending some afternoons at the home tutoring small groups on particular subjects. Most of the girls do tend to be behind on homework, so any assistance on that as well would be much appreciated. Being computer savvy would be a great advantage for the girls in the future, so you also have the opportunity to organise computer tuition sessions to teach them the basics.
Dancing and acting are very popular amongst the girls, so if you have always wanted to direct your very own show, here is your chance! Working on something like this would not only be really appreciated by the girls, it would also be a lot of fun, especially if you are particularly creative.
At the end of all yours and the girls’ hard work you will have a captive audience in the church hall to perform the finished product to. It is activities like these ones that allow the children to build up confidence, understand what it is to work in a team and to have the opportunity to experience the fun of childhood. Shows in the past have included nativity plays, an open day that involved a lot of music and dancing and also fund raising sessions with the proceeds being invested in the home.
Whilst the older children are out at school, you will spend the time working with the very young children and anyone who is too ill to go to school. If you are particularly keen on practical task, any help on painting the girls’ rooms or putting a coat of varnish on the furniture would always be greatly appreciated.
What's Included in the Programme

- Soft drinks, beer, wines and spirits
- Any excursions over and above your planned itinerary in Cape Town
