South Africa Horseback Conservation Experience
Riding in the African Bush is wonderful and ever changing, from quietly walking through bush on the look out for game and birds, to long trots and canters.
The combination of riding and game viewing is unforgettable! Combine this with an informal conservation course for an unforgetable trip to Africa.
Conservation FocusThe emphasis is in offering the students a unique bush experience on horseback, walking and driving, where attention is paid not only to the animals, but also to all aspects of local ecology
Possible Voluntary WorkAs a student on this voluntary work in South Africa you will spend about 40% of their time assisting with the care and welfare of the horses, which are used for horseback safaris on the property.
The surrounding game reserves have the big African game, including the Big 5, but there are no permanent predators at the project, so safety is not a problem.

LocationThe Project is situated at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains to the west of the renowned Kruger National Park. The project is 12km from the town of Hoedspruit in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. This is a rustic bush lodge where people, wildlife and horses mix freely in an atmosphere of relaxed outdoor life.
AccommodationStudents share thatched roof, wooden chalets. Mosquito nets are provided. Showers and toilets are separate, open-air wooden structures with running water, heated by fire. As we have no electricity supply, battery-operated lights, paraffin lanterns and gas is used.
Open dinning room and braai (BBQ) area are situated under large trees. A quaint splash pool and game viewing hide overlooking a well- used waterhole around the lodge off for ultimate tranquility.
