Voluntary Work
The project is in need of volunteers with a love of books and children, as well as eagerness to teach as well as learn! You do not need to be a qualified teacher to take part as you will receive basic training and there will be support to hand. As your confidence grows you may be asked to work with small groups of children as well as one-on-one teaching.
You may be involved in some or all of the following duties:
- Small reading groups
- Teaching art classes
- Managing a garden project
- Lending a hand in the school library
- Working alongside the project staff
- One-on-one reading
- Assisting with admin and downloading teaching resources
- Running the book swap shop during lunchtimes
- Testing under supervision
- Assisting in literacy hour
- Helping out in the classroom
What's Included in the Programme
- Project Fee: this entails financing that goes directly back into the project that you are involved with. This project fee facilitates funding for items such as building materials, equipment, supplies, foodstuffs, etc
- Airport transfers to and from Cape Town International Airport
- Orientation on arrival
- Accommodation on your project
- All meals on your project
- 24 hour support number and contact in the UK for emergencies
What's Not Included in the Programme
- All flights and taxes
- Personal travel insurance
- All items of a personal nature, such as curios, gifts, clothing etc
- E-mail/Internet and telephone calls
- Soft drinks, beer, wines and spirits
- Any excursions over and above your planned itinerary in Cape Town
