Situated within the beautiful iSimagaliso Wetland Park, this programme is perfectly suited to those that wish to develop their medical skills whilst also making a real difference to the lives of the local community.
During the morning, you will either be volunteering at a medical clinic or visiting sick people in their homes alongside a home carer. Both activities enable you to gain skills in the medical field, provide invaluable support to the local community and establish rewarding relationships with the local staff.
Your time at the medical clinics will involve helping in many different clinics including; the Under 5's clinic, family planning, antenatal, chronic clinic and minor aliments. You will assist with medical tasks in these clinics and have the opportunity to learn from the nurses. You will also have the chance to teach the nurses basic computer skills to enable them to record data which will help improve the management of the clinics.
Your time spent with your home carer will involve visiting sick people out in the community, providing them with food, checking that they have the right medication and generally offering a friendly face for them to have around.
In the afternoon, you will be involved with community projects. Some examples of the type of community work you may be involved with include:
