Your Typical Itinerary
You will be doing hard but enjoyable work and some fantastic opportunities will be made available to you. A typical day on the project will vary considerably, however below is a rough outline of what to expect whilst you are out there:
06:00-06:30 Transfer to the farm to help with mixing feeds for farm and horses. Check water troughs. Visually check the horses for any problems.
09:00 Feed trail horses and check water and horses
10:30 Break for tea
10:45 Grooming, lunging, exercise and schooling work. You will be given a demo on how to do this if you are less experienced. Occasionally you will use this time to help dip the horses at the beach.
13:00 Lunch Break
14:00 Cleaning and maintenance of tack. Demo given if you are less experienced.
15:00 Back to feed room to mix more food for horses.
15:30-17:00 Pick up and transfer back.
Final Weekend Trail (only available for participants on programme for 4 weeks or longer)
As your time on the programme draws to an end, you will head out on a 2-day trail along the Wild Coast on the last weekend. This trail will be a combination of beach and bush riding and gives you the chance to really experience the spectacular coastline of the Wild Coast and experience one last exhilarating horse ride.
Please note: As 80% of the trail horses have a history of abuse and neglect, there are strict rules pertaining to the weight of the rider and therefore the ability and the one seventh rule will be vital in assigning horses.
