Voluntary Work
You will be based in the rural areas on the edge of Lake Victoria where due to a real shortage of resources and support, many children are missing out on a childhood and opportunities for their future.
This project gives you the chance to help at a local Children's home and on a variety of sustainable and innovative projects to offer opportunities for these vulnerable children.
You will be working alongside United Nations Guidelines for the Rights of Children, to ensure that they receive nutritional meals, shelter, love and support whilst also nurturing their key skills to help integrate them back into society, education and reunite them with families.
Although this is a hugely ambitious project, the essence of a volunteer’s role remains giving the children the love and support they so badly need. You’ll also be encouraged to nurture their strengths and skills through thoughtful, one-to-one interaction, which will eventually lead to their success in everyday life.
Daily volunteer activities include:
- Providing nutritional meals and shelter
- Creating a safe environment for them to live and effective medical care
- Assisting with education initiatives, giving one-to-one tuition and generally inspiring them to want to learn
- Helping to tackle the common forms of abuse they have suffered, while also providing vital love and support to the children
- Making these children aware of their responsibilities, to themselves and the wider community, promoting their active involvement within the Children’s Centre and the local society.
