Conservation Programme Details
Through the exploration of national parks, volunteer activities and guided walks you will soon fall in love with this incredible part of Australia. Most of your time will be spent enjoying the great outdoors and with the air in Tasmania being scientifically proven as some of the world cleanest, this is the place to do it!
Volunteering
Australia is famous for is stunning scenery and mile upon mile of beautiful coastline. However, areas of Tasmania are under threat from human impacts as well as natural pests and processes. Help is needed to preserve the precious ecosystems.
Throughout the programme you will also spend time within Tasmania’s national parks and reserves where volunteer activities may include the following;

Walking track maintenance – needed to protect sensitive ecosystems from human impact
- Weed removal – to prevent pest species from taking over
- Planting of native grasses and tress to improve natural habitats
- Habitat restoration
- Flora surveys
- Penguin surveys
Volunteer activities are subject to change depending on the environmental needs at the time you are there.
National park visits
More than forty per cent of Tasmania is protected as national parks and reserves and this programme provides you with ample opportunity to experience these incredible environments. By spending time in the nature reserves and national parks you will be proud of your hard work and volunteer input as you get to know the areas that you are helping to protect.
Cradle Mountain National Park - This world heritage listed national park is a nature lovers paradise providing you with opportunities to spot a variety of rare and endangered species many of which are found no where else in the world. On walks of less than 30 minutes you can stroll from cascading waterfalls to ancient rainforest or alternatively you may want to spend the day tackling the summit! On day 10 and 11 of your programme you will spend time in Cradle Mountain including a guided walk and the option to see wildlife at night!
Liffey River Reserve – This reserve is a beautiful temperate rainforest located on the edge of the Tasmania Central Plateau World Heritage Area. As well as 60 bird species you will be in with a chance of spotting pygmy possums, Tasmanian devils, bandicoots and platypus. On day 12 you will spend time in the reserve and after a guided walk you will get involved with the long-term management programme that is taking place there. It has been designed to reduce the impact of non-native plant species and monitor the success of the recovery projects.
Freycinet National Park – This incredible area consists of Granite Mountains and is surrounded by bays and white sandy beaches. You will be able to explore the park on day 14 of the programme during a guided walk to one of the world’s best beaches – Wineglass beach.
