What were the highlights of your trip?
It was a pleasure and a privilege to work so closely with so many different kinds of animals, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute of the month I was there. You will encounter species of animals that you'll never have met before, and you'll find yourself falling head over heels in love with the most unexpected creatures! For me it was the bats that I found especially enchanting - but you too will soon discover that a particular animal has found a new place right next to your heart. Working with the other volunteers is wonderful too: I'm 41 and the ages of others ranged from very early 20s to mid 50s - from several nationalities - and we all got on extremely well together and had a real blast. Great fun, and I was extremely sorry to leave my new 'family' behind when it was time to come home.
Do you have 3 top tips for future travellers?
1) Working with the bats is absolutely wonderful, so make sure you get your rabies jabs before you go - you can't work with the bats if you haven't been rabies vaccinated.
2) You'll work hard and for quite long days at times, but it is never less than great fun and hugely rewarding. And you'll sleep like a log :-)
3) The sanctuary is in a rural/agricultutral area far from the Florida tourist trail, so take plenty of books, relax and enjoy the tranquility and the wildlife all around you when you're not working
Give us up to 10 words that sum up your experience: for example - "Great experience, made new friends, totally unforgettable!"
Enchanting, delightful, hard work, great fun - loved every minute!
If you have been on this travel project, we'd love to hear from you!
