Voluntary Work

You would be working as part of a team dedicated to improving the lives of some of the special needs children and teenagers in the town’s care centre. The Youth, Care, and Community volunteers help these young people in all sorts of ways, from improving their basic life skills to organising sport, drama, and fun activities.

As well as having direct contact with the young people, there’s a chance to help out with practical projects such as painting classrooms and maintaining playgrounds, or just helping out wherever you’re needed.

This sort of community project is always in need of resources and funds, and any level of skill, as long as it comes with enthusiasm and a warm and friendly approach, is very welcome.

Your work may include organising or helping with:

  • Taking care of underprivileged children in local day care centres - bringing warmth and affection as well as practical help
  • Integration of children and teenagers with special needs into the Attention and Training Centre
  • Recreational and developmental activities, special events, outings, sports and games
  • Visiting the paediatric ward for recreational activities like story-telling, drama, and play sessions
  • Making and decorating wooden didactic toys and materials for play-therapy programmes
  • Teaching or helping with computer or ceramics classes, or in the local music school (orchestral and choral)
  • Restoring and maintaining children’s playgrounds, school facilities, and gardens
  • Passing on vocational skills
