Working in an area of great bio-diversity, alongside local people and other volunteers, you will experience at first hand the enormous efforts under way to conserve the delicate ecological balance to be found within the national park.

Dates:

First Monday of the month, for travel to Santa Elena on Tuesday. The programme begins on Wednesday.

Voluntary Work

This project gives volunteers the opportunity to play an important part in a variety of conservation projects aimed at preserving the cultural identity of the indigenous Pemon Indians and the bio-diversity of the region. As you work you can enjoy fantastic scenery and wildlife as diverse as its surroundings, including exotic birds, butterflies, and monkeys.

Your work may include helping with:

  • Ecologically-sensitive reforestation and restoration
  • Establishing and maintaining a bird sanctuary, a tree nursery, and a bamboo plantation
  • Planting saplings and tending to young plants
  • Establishing a rain forest education trail for local school children
  • Creating footpaths and collecting rubbish within the park
  • Grounds maintenance, and care of the fruit and vegetable gardens
  • Photographing and recording native flora and fauna
  • Guiding visitors and environmental education programmes
  • Establishing an organic vegetable garden for special needs children in the therapy and training centre
  • Developing a comprehensive log of the indigenous wildlife

  • Transfer from Caracas International airport to bus terminal
  • Bus from Caracas to Santa Elena

  • Orientation, continual supervision and regular briefings
  • Certificate and/or written reference

What’s Not Included in the Programme

  • All flights
  • Travel insurance
  • All items of a personal nature, such as curios, gifts, clothing (work and other)
  • E-mail/Internet and telephone calls
  • Soft drinks, beer, wines and spirits
  • Visas
  • Any excursions over and above the planned itinerary in Venezuela

Please note:
The project costs only cover your one-way travel and hotel stay down to Santa Elena from Caracas. If you would like to add on a return package (which would cover your return bus ticket, transfers and hotel stay in Caracas), please contact us. This is an additional payment of around £120 / 162€.
