Voluntary work in India

India is a vast, beautiful and fascinating country and it would be easy to spend an entire career break travelling there. Doing some voluntary work in India is an excellent way to be a responsible tourist while you travel and make a positive contribution to a country where extreme hardship and poverty is everyday life for millions of people. If you do some voluntary work in India you will get to know both local people and other like-minded travellers - and most people who return home from doing some voluntary work in India describe it as a real life-changing experience.

It's important to stress that voluntary work in India, in spite of all the poverty and hardship you encounter, is often an extremely fun and uplifting experience. The local people you meet when you do some voluntary work in India tend to be inspirational with their positive outlook in the face of adversity and volunteering is also a great way to fully experience Indian culture. All of GYFGU's ‘Voluntary work in India' programmes combine some truly rewarding volunteer work with opportunities to explore some of India's essential sights. GYFGU's has put together three different programmes, each of which is based in a very different area of India, to provide gap year travellers with the opportunity to do some extremely worthwhile volunteering and explore India at the same time…

Voluntary work in India - Rajasthan Desert Experience

With Gap Year for Grown Ups ‘Volunteer India Rajasthan Project' you can do some voluntary work in India in the beautiful setting of the Rajasthan desert in the north-west of the country. The voluntary work in India on this project is very much a ‘back to basics' experience and involves helping out with various community development schemes. Travellers on the Rajasthan ‘Voluntary work in India' programme can choose from a number of different projects, from working as teaching assistants to assisting in local child-care centres. Aside from the voluntary work in India aspect of the programme there's also plenty of opportunity to travel and see some of India's most memorable places. Highlights of the Rajasthan ‘Voluntary work in India' programme include an optional tiger safari, a visit to the incomparable Taj Mahal, a two day camel safari and a visit to the wonderful ‘pink city' of Jaipur.

Voluntary work in India - Himalayan Experience

GYFGU's most ‘off the beaten track' voluntary work in India project is the exciting ‘Volunteer India Himachal Project.' The programme is a unique opportunity to do some voluntary work in India in a stunning region of northern India (that far fewer westerners generally venture to) with the Himalayas as an amazing natural backdrop. The voluntary work in India on this programme includes the chance to help out at a special needs school as well as assisting in local primary schools. Before the voluntary work in India starts there are also visits to Agra (to see the Taj Mahal), Jaipur and Amritsar.

Voluntary work in India - Beach Experience

With GYFGU's ‘Volunteer in India - Goa Volunteer Programme' you can do dome voluntary work in India in an idyllic setting beside one of Goa's finest beaches. On this programme you can so some voluntary work in India by assisting in local schools, helping out in old peoples' homes, working in child care centres or caring for patients at an AIDS hospice. Aside from the voluntary work in India aspect of the programmes highlights include jungle trekking, a stay in a tribal village and a three-day visit to an Ashram - as well as plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beach in your spare time.

All of the above ‘Voluntary work in India' programmes also include the opportunity to get involved with other activities such as yoga, mediation, Hindi lessons and cooking workshops.
