Volunteer India Rajasthan Project
Live and volunteer in the Rajasthan desert area of North West India. Stay in the world's most colourful desert in the land of the Maharajas, along with its magnificent architectural heritage.
Be part of an India voluntary work developmental project to help communities prosper, where you will be able to make a valuable contribution to the improvement of the local living conditions in Rajasthan.
Voluntary Work
Volunteers are needed to work in primary schools and local day care centres for pre-school children. Other volunteer opportunities may include working with adolescent girls and women providing education and empowerment for this neglected part of the Indian population and working in residential training camps for physically disabled children. See our further information page for more details.
LocationRajasthan is one of the driest but most colourful regions in India. The best time to visit is during their winter months of September to March where the temperatures are mild ranging from 8-22 degrees. The temperature soars to 40 degrees during the summer months. The rainfall, which is sparse, comes during the months of July and September.
Accommodation and Meals
You will be staying with local English speaking families in a private room in homestay accommodation during the orientation week. During the volunteer placement you will be staying in a small purpose built complex, in private twin share rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
All meals are included during the orientation programme and placement period. Indian food culture may require some adjustments on your part! People throughout India tend to eat without silverware, using either their hands or pieces of chapatti (Indian flat bread). In rural areas, people also tend to eat sitting cross-legged on the floor as opposed to at tables.
