Volunteer with children

Working as a volunteer with children is an extremely rewarding way to help those less fortunate than yourself whilst you are career break travelling. It's important to remember that being able to travel the world is a tremendous privilege that many of the people you encounter will never be fortunate enough to experience. Working as a volunteer with children is an excellent opportunity to be a responsible tourist and make a valuable contribution to some of the people you meet on your travels.

It's a sad fact of life that in many countries across the world travellers are approached by children begging for money or sweets - and it's not always easy to know what to do in this type of situation. Working as a volunteer with children on your career break travel (even if it's just for a week or two) is an ideal solution to this type of moral dilemma - as working as a volunteer with children has a far greater long term positive impact on the lives of the children you're helping than if you'd simply given them a bit of loose change in the street.

If you'd like to volunteer with children on your gap year or career break Gap Year for Grown Ups has a diverse range of programmes throughout the world dedicated to giving disadvantaged children a better start in life. When you volunteer with children you gain a real sense of personal achievement from the experience and volunteering is also by far the best way to immerse yourself in local culture on your travels. Although it can obviously be hard work at times it's important to stress that working as a volunteer with children can also be a great deal of fun - and some of the children you meet can be truly inspirational. By working as a volunteer with children you get to know local people on a far more intimate level and gain a unique insight in to their everyday lives.

With GYFGU's it's possible to volunteer with children in three main areas - Latin America, Asia and Africa. In order to decide which project's the right one for you it's well worth spending some time reading up on all of our programmes on the GYFGU's website. Alternatively, if you'd rather discuss the various options for working as a volunteer with children with someone in person, you can also speak to one of our expert travel advisers.
