Voluntary Work

Volunteers are placed in one of the many schools in Livingstone that require help. The first school for example, caters for more than 2000 pupils. The number of children in each class is often very high and as a result the children get little individual attention, which is where you can help!

As a volunteer on the teaching project, you will be involved in the following activities:

  • Teaching assistant: While the teacher is in front of the class teaching a lesson, you will circulate the room giving the children one-to-one assistance Mark tests
  • Organise special needs classes for children who have fallen behind in their studies
  • Organise and coach sport events
  • Help out at meal times. Every child receives a meal at most basic schools, which is often their only meal of the day
  • Help keep the classrooms clean and assist with basic maintenance
  • You may also have the opportunity to take some lessons yourself, so please be prepared and bring along some basic teaching materials
We are currently involved in a number of exciting extra projects in these schools, as and when funds are available. Some of these tasks include:
  • Re-painting the schools
  • Building the last classroom. We will then begin painting the rest of the school.
  • Football and Netball coaching in the afternoons
  • Reading clubs in the afternoons
