Zambia Teaching Volunteers

Trip code: ZATO
Teaching volunteers needed in Zambia

Located near the spectacular Victoria Falls, this Gap Year for Grown Ups project gives you an opportunity to get invloved in voluntary work close to some of Africa's most beautiful locations. You have the option of either working as a classroom-teaching assistant, or as a sports coach.

Orientation

Upon arrival in Livingstone all volunteers are involved in comprehensive 1-day orientation programme. This orientation is facilitated by your project volunteer coordinator and entails:

  • An introduction to the town of Livingstone and surrounding areas
  • You will also see where your fellow volunteers will be spending their days

At the orientation, volunteers will also receive our detailed ‘welcome pack’, which will contain further useful information for your time with us

Accommodation and Meals

During your time on the programme, you will be staying at Livingstone Backpackers. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and close to all amenities, within walking distance of the town. The house is shared with other medical and sports project volunteers and you will share a room with up to seven travellers of the same sex.

There are six showers and six toilets in three separate ablution blocks in and next to the house.

Some of the features at the accommodation include: free internet, use of the climbing wall, jacuzzi and swimming pool, large garden and cash bar managed by the Backpackers staff. You will also be able to make bookings for optional activities at the premises.

You are provided with three meals a day. All meals are cooked by our staff and are served at the volunteer house. The project is able to cater for vegetarians and special diets but please contact us in advance of your departure if you require different foods so that we can notify the project.

If you are travelling with a partner or friend and would like to room together, please let us know before you departure.

Free Time

Victoria Falls is right on your doorstep and is known as the adrenalin capital of the world! During your weekends and spare time, you will have the opportunity to experience the following activities, at your own personal cost.

  • The world’s most exciting white water rafting on the Zambezi River
  • Bungee jumping and gorge swings over the Batoka Gorge below the Falls
  • Sunset cruises or canoeing safaris on the Zambezi River with experienced guides
  • Elephant or horse back safaris (half day or full day excursions)
  • Helicopter and Microlight flights over the Falls and Zambezi National Park
  • A fully organised weekend tour to Victoria Falls, including a variety of activities at just US$250 per person. This will include lion walks, visas, accommodation, food and drinks!
  • Being so close to the Victoria Falls means that you are at a major starting point for tours through Africa. Why not join an overland tour after your volunteer project and further explore the amazing sights that Africa has to offer you.
